WordPress Support Engineer

As our WordPress Support Engineer, you’ll be responsible for providing technical support, troubleshooting, and maintenance for client websites built on WordPress. Alongside providing support, there will be opportunities to build new features and support new project builds. You’ll work closely with our project teams to ensure websites are secure, optimised, and performing at their best.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Support: Respond to and resolve client support requests efficiently, ensuring high customer satisfaction.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve issues related to plugins, themes, custom functionality, and hosting environments.
- Maintenance & Updates: Manage WordPress updates (core, themes, and plugins) while ensuring compatibility and minimising downtime.
- Build new functionality based on client requests and internal audits
- Performance Optimisation: Identify and implement solutions to improve website performance, speed, and security.
- Customisation: Make minor adjustments to themes, plugins, or CSS to meet client requirements.
- Documentation: Maintain clear and detailed records of issues, solutions, and processes in internal systems.
- Collaboration: Work with internal teams to escalate complex issues and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Skills & Experience
- 2 years of experience in WordPress website development or support.
- Strong understanding of WordPress core, themes, and plugins.
- Experience with troubleshooting technical issues related to PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Strong skills in quality assurance, including a keen eye for detail, identifying and resolving issues, and a commitment to maintaining high standards throughout the development process.
- Knowledge of website performance optimisation techniques (caching, CDN, image compression).
- Experience with debugging tools like Chrome DevTools, Query Monitor, or WP Debug.
- Basic understanding of database management (MySQL) and version control (Git).
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.
Desirable Skills
- Familiarity with advanced custom fields (ACF) and custom post types.
- Familiarity with hosting environments, including cPanel and command-line tools.
- Knowledge of headless WordPress solutions and API integrations.
- Understanding of SEO best practices for WordPress websites.
- Experience with ticketing / project management systems like Monday.com
