Last week, the team returned to Canvas Conf for the second year running. Canvas is a one day conference for designers, developers and user experience professionals focused around digital products.
Hosted at the Library of Birmingham, the theme for this year was based on “Insider stories from product people” and we were lucky to hear from a range of cross discipline speakers that included Graze, Travelex, Etsy, Withings, Medium, Birchbox, Hive, Go Cardless, TED and NASA (Yes, actual NASA!).
Here’s some of the highlights from the day:
Dave Wascha, Travelex — Dave gave an interesting insight to the UX behind their currency converter app, allowing users to get results without their thumb leaving the screen — the first of it’s kind.
Tom Petty, GoCardless — Tom provided a look at the design process at GoCardless & how they developed a set of meaningful principled design principles.
Tom Guy, Hive — Tom talked us through how Hive was created from within British Gas, as an innovation team, which re-invented the outdated household thermostat.
Aaron Weyenberg, TED — Aaron highlighted how TED’s content was analytically measured to aid their website re-design and the various A/B testing outcomes.
Joe Polastre, Medium — Joe took us behind the scenes and explained the complex algorithms and data processes that are used to connect users & grow the Medium network.
