Last weekend our design & development teams attended WordCamp 2015, a 2 day WordPress Designer/Developer conference. The talks and workshops were curated online, with speakers posting their proposal talks on the event website.
There were talks covering all manner of things WordPress and user experience. From using the platform to building digital applications, managing content rich websites, the ux of website search and using real-time technology.
Highlights from the day, included talks from Josh Hillier, who presented how we could work with real-time data within WordPress using technologies such as node.js and socket.io.
Steven Jones presented “Improving the UX of search in WordPress” which got us thinking how we can better improve our clients on site search functionally, in terms of what results it delivers to the user. No one likes searching for something, only to be told ‘No results found!” Introducing returns that display, similar products, relevant categories and additional help/guidance tools are a few approaches we’re going to be testing over the coming months.
We’d like to say a big thanks to the event organisers, The Studio Birmingham and to all the volunteers for enabling the day to run smoothly!
